The History of the Thomas Moore Tavern
The Thomas Moore Tavern, one of Wexford’s oldest bars is named after the renowned Irish Poet whose parents once lived here. There was a hostelry on the site as far back as the twelfth century, and parts of the current building date back to the 1700’s.
Following an extensive refurbishment, the Thomas Moore Tavern opened its doors again in February 2011. The authentic Victorian bar on the ground floor retains many of its original features and feels timeless; a refuge from the world outside, somewhere to sup a quiet pint, watch the big match or have a catch up with friends.
Traditional yet contemporary, the bar features a cosy stove and a walnut panelled wall that pays homage to a tradition of national and local literary giants including Thomas Moore himself.
