Georgina Campbell Recommended

Georgina Campbell reviewHead chef Krzysztof Pilniak’s Bistro Menu (shortened at lunchtime) offers a well balanced choice of dishes that make good use of both local in-season foods (fresh fish sourced in Wexford and game from Wicklow are among the seasonal offerings) and more exotic ingredients. It works out at especially good value for lunch – and well-informed staff are happy to discuss the menu and advise on choices.

The Tavern caters well for or private functions, with The Piano Bar available for anything from birthday parties to corporate events and weddings – and the private rooftop restaurant, Spires, can also be booked. Offering panoramic views of Wexford Town, it caters for up to 50 guests for a sit down meal.

A fairly extensive wine list offers choices from around the world, with some available by the glass.

Restaurant Review – Taste of Ireland

Thomas Moore Tavern recommended by Taste of IrelandThe Thomas Moore Tavern is the oldest bar in Co. Wexford. Located in the heart of the town, it is owned and run by well-known local entrepreneurs Tony and Breda Wright and it has recently re-opened after a careful architectural restoration and extensive renovation. Words like opulent, luxurious and decadent spring to mind, and that’s no bad thing.

The Thomas Moore Tavern occupies five floors, each with its own distinct character. The authentic Victorian Bar on the ground floor feels timeless; sympathetic updating has retained many original features. Traditional yet contemporary, the bar features a cosy stove and a walnut-panelled wall that pays homage to a tradition of Irish and local literary greats, including Thomas Moore himself. Live bands play weekly, and the bar is a lively and vibrant place with a great atmosphere. Upstairs, The Piano Bar, with its sophisticated cocktail bar, creates a quieter space and is perfect for a romantic evening a deux.
